Spring time in New York City

One of my students recently told me that Winter was the most romantic season to her. She loved to see people skating under the tree at Rockefeller Center, skiing upstate NY and her favorite, snuggling in front of a cozy fireplace with a huge mug of hot chocolate.

All things considered, Winter  is indeed a magical time, but for me Spring is the epitome of romance.

I love to see the baby birds in Central Park learn to fly, see and smell the pretty flowers that are strategically scattered around  the city and bask in the cool crisp air that slowly  drive away the last remnants of Winter. I also especially love to see the trees outside my window begin to grow leaves again. It seems like they are awaking from a long slumber and each baby leaf gives me hope for a better tomorrow.

Spring time also means babies. Lots of cute babies and their mothers flocking the parks and strolling along Eastern Parkway. I love walking along the Hudson River and seeing all the Mommy and Me classes. I can usually spot them from a mile away, because there is always a cluster of strollers and a pile of blankets layed out as each group stake their claim on a patch of grass along the esplanade.  And I would imagine myself one day joining one of those groups, with a cute little mini me in tow.

Spring also means TriBeCa and the TriBeCa film festival. Every since i went to the family festival a few years ago to see a viewing of The Goonies, I’ve been hooked. I was lucky enough to work at the festival last year and hopefully I will do so again this year. The experience in itself was amazing. Everyone who knows me know I am a movie junkie. From Quentin Tarantino’s Death Proof to Stanley Kubrick’s The Clockwork Orange, you can’t help but love them. Being able to work as a crew member at the festival and experience the excitement and energy that is the festival itself was very memorable. It was also my way of stepping out of my comfort zone and trying something new.

Over the past few of years I’ve made it my mission to explore, discover and experience NYC like I’ve never done before. What’s the point of living in such a great city,  a city where millions of tourists flock too every year, and you can’t say that you have done or at least know about some of the main attractions or even a few of the hidden gems that the city have to offer. I don’t mean the usual Times Square or Statue of Libery sites, I’m talking about Coney Island, the Brooklun Museum, Staten Island and maybe even Dumbo and Fire Island  if you want to be a little more adventurous.

So this Spring, wether you live in NYC or you are just visiting, I hope that you get to experience NY in its full glory, but if you arnt so lucky to be here, don’t worry, I will be sure to share my experiences with you so just stay tuned!
